Victoria Knobloch Films

Philosophical documentary films by Leipzig-based photographer and director Victoria Knobloch, in which I participated. Her films combine contemplative imagery with philosophical depth, posing the questions our time demands of us.

Die geistige Krise unserer Zeit

2022 · 82 min
With Eugen Drewermann, Iain McGilchrist, Gwendolin Kirchhoff

When a civilisation fails to achieve a balance between material and spiritual forces, it is likely to collapse. The film explores why spiritual equilibrium — as a counterweight to two hundred years of phenomenal outward progress — is so crucial to prevent those same destructive forces from rebounding upon us. It examines how the crisis manifests and discusses whether a religious framework is needed in the West to restore that balance, and what it might look like.

Tiefgang — Eine Gesellschaft muss auf die Couch

2021 · 90 min
With Gwendolin Kirchhoff

The film critiques our society's relentless drive for self-optimisation and its ideology of progress, revealing how both are deeply entwined with the current economic system and our estrangement from genuine feeling. Our coping mechanisms — repression, numbing with chemicals or distraction — offer no real help; what remains absent is social critique, self-knowledge, and transformation. The film takes the viewer into the depths of the soul, showing that nearly all the phenomena and problems that manifest outwardly ultimately originate there.

Die Kunst des inneren Weges

2020 · 96 min
With Eugen Drewermann, Glenn Mullin, Gwendolin Kirchhoff

The film examines the loss of the inner-soul world in the West and shows how a dharmic approach might help to recover that lost inner stability. Dharma can be understood as an inner science — a path inward. It connects direct self-observation with yogic insight, potentially leading to the true self and thus to freedom. The film also addresses lost starting points within the Christian tradition. What is an inner path? How does it differ between Christianity and Eastern religions? And what is it beyond any religion? These are the questions the film reflects upon.

The themes of these films flow into my philosophical practice. If the questions raised here move you too —
