A philosophical consultation with Gwendolin Kirchhoff is a 60-minute one-to-one conversation about the question you are actually carrying — held in English or German, at her practice in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg or by video call from anywhere in the world. Gwendolin is a philosopher and licensed psychotherapy practitioner (licensed 2015), in independent practice since 2018; what she offers here is philosophical accompaniment, not psychotherapy, and she works with philosophical reflection and intuitive empathy rather than with diagnoses or optimisation goals. The question at the centre is not what is wrong with you, but what truly carries you — and what is missing.
Something fundamental is on your mind — a question, a confusion, a diffuse feeling or an obstacle weighing on your path. A philosophical consultation is a conversation of a different kind — neither therapy nor conventional coaching, but an intuitive dialogue that opens space for what is truly at work.
Is the introductory call really free?
Yes — 30 minutes, and it commits you to nothing. No contract, no payment up front.
What does ongoing work cost?
A single 60-minute consultation costs 140 €. Five sessions 700 € (one further hour included). Ten sessions 1,400 € (three further hours included).
What if it isn't the right fit?
Where a conversation shows that treatment is what is genuinely needed — therapy, counselling, coaching — Gwendolin says so plainly. Better an honest introductory call than an ongoing process that does not carry you.
Philosophical counseling or philosophical consultation?
On this site the two words name the same work. In English this kind of conversation is usually called philosophical counseling — counselling, in British spelling. Consultation is the closer translation of the German Konsultation, which is what Gwendolin calls a single session. The difference is one of vocabulary, not of method: what you may have been looking for as philosophical counseling is what happens here — a philosopher and one person thinking through one question, without diagnosis and without a technique to apply.
The field has its own history, its own arguments about what separates it from therapy and from coaching, and its own demands on the person who comes. That account has a page of its own: philosophical counseling in Berlin and online.
What to expect
It begins with a question. A consultation starts before the conversation itself — with a question I pose to you, tailored to your concern, for you to sit with beforehand. The session takes place either at my practice in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg or via video call.
Your intention is at the centre. What matters to you? What do you perhaps wish for?
I listen to what is unspoken. While you describe your concern, I listen above all to the space between the words. In my experience, there is a fundamental difference between the everyday and usually fruitless talking-about and the speaking-out of what is truly alive in the soul. The real truth, the real feeling, lies a layer deeper beneath the confusion and is usually held back and concealed. Speaking it out changes the field and sets something in motion.
To get closer to what is genuinely at stake for you, I will
- Inspire you to see your question in a larger context and broaden your perspective,
- Ask clarifying and deepening questions about what you already think and believe, and give you space to say things aloud,
- Intuitively feel my way into your situation and reflect it back with empathy,
- Explore patterns and relational dynamics — and what might lie behind them,
- Where appropriate, draw parallels to myths, archetypes, and the great questions of human existence,
- Explore your possible courses of action together with you.
The result is an organic next step. In the consultation you gain an intellectual, emotional, and energetic opening from which a next step crystallises — either during the conversation itself or in its aftermath.

The packages create space for a rhythmic process of development. Between sessions, just as much often happens as within them. The path unfolds as you walk it. And the soul often takes apparent detours that, in retrospect, turn out to have been the most direct route.
The goal is development
Many people ultimately come with the question "What should I do?" Philosophy is also the thinking before the actual acting in the world. Every domain of human action is preceded by thoughts that determine why and how we do what we do. Development is blocked by inner distress, lack of clarity, confusion, or emotional fog — by missing inner and outer orientation. What matters is the movement that genuinely wants to emerge organically, from within, not the patterns and concepts that usually stand in its way.
I work with people who are seeking their own path — people in phases of transition, with recurring relationship themes, spiritual crises and questions of meaning, family entanglements, difficulty making decisions, emotional blocks, or the desire for a new direction regarding what "no longer works" or "no longer feels right."
What informs my work
My practice draws on a lifetime of thinking and lived experience, developed over decades. It follows no established school and cannot be replicated by anyone else — it is, in this form, my own.
- Deep and differentiated engagement with the breadth of Western and Eastern philosophy through my studies and the long collaboration with my father, the natural philosopher Jochen Kirchhoff — including philosophical discernment and ethical thinking.
- The insights of systemic family constellation work, which offers profound understanding of the dynamics of the soul, a real-world sense of how actions reverberate, and what human relationships truly rest upon. About family constellation
- Years of practice as a Kundalini yoga teacher, which introduced me to an energetic anatomy — including the key experience of Kundalini rising and forms of energetic bodywork.
- Extensive personal experience with modern relational, somatic, and trauma-therapeutic approaches. Contemporary research on nervous system regulation validates the experiential wisdom of classical yoga while adding the centrally important dimension of attachment.
I work intuitively, relationally, and process-oriented, adapting individually to your personal needs.

Sometimes the source of a blockage lies deeper — in your family of origin, in the fates of earlier generations that continue to resonate within you. Systemic constellation work makes these invisible bonds visible and restores a coherent order. Discover family constellation →

Frequently asked questions
What is a philosophical consultation?
A philosophical consultation is a 60-minute one-to-one conversation about a question you are carrying — held with a philosopher, not with a therapist or a coach. It works without diagnosis and without technique: your question is examined for the assumptions underneath it, for the beliefs you have never had reason to test, and for what your situation is actually asking of you. With Gwendolin Kirchhoff it begins before the session itself, with a question she poses to you in advance. Sessions take place at her practice or by video call, in English or German.
Is philosophical consultation the same as therapy?
No. A philosophical consultation is not psychotherapy: it does not treat mental illness and it does not work with diagnostic categories. Psychotherapy asks what is disturbed and how it can be healed. A philosophical consultation asks what your real question is, and what is missing in the way you are thinking about your life. Gwendolin Kirchhoff is a licensed psychotherapy practitioner under German law (Heilpraktikerin für Psychotherapie) as well as a philosopher, and it is worth naming for one reason only: so that the boundary is drawn by someone who can see both sides of it. What she offers here is philosophical accompaniment, not psychotherapeutic treatment. Where a conversation shows that treatment is what is genuinely needed, she says so plainly.
Are sessions held in English?
Yes. Gwendolin Kirchhoff works in English and in German, and you choose which. Sessions run by secure video call — Cal Video, Zoom, or Google Meet — from anywhere in the world, or in person at her practice: Kastanienallee 2, 10435 Berlin — Prenzlauer Berg locality, Pankow borough. Family constellation work is the one exception: it asks for physical presence and takes place in Berlin.
How do I book from abroad, and what about time zones?
The first step is a 30-minute introductory conversation, which is free and commits you to nothing. You book it online. Sessions are scheduled within Central European Time (CET/CEST), with evening slots for the Americas and morning slots for Asia-Pacific. Nothing about the work requires you to travel to Berlin — video call and practice room are the same conversation.
What does a philosophical consultation cost?
A single 60-minute consultation costs 140 €, and the 30-minute introductory conversation is free. For ongoing work there are packages: three sessions for 420 €, five for 700 € (one further hour included), ten for 1,400 € (three further hours included). The price is the same whether the session takes place in Berlin or by video call.
Do I need any background in philosophy?
No. A philosophical consultation asks for no reading, no degree, and no familiarity with the tradition. What you bring is your own experience — your question, your situation, your wish for clarity. The philosophical tradition enters the conversation as a tool, not as a precondition: Socrates spoke with craftsmen and generals, not with fellow specialists. What matters is the willingness to look honestly at what is there.
